Dahlia fold card

I decided to try the Dahlia fold technique I've been seeing a lot of lately. Here is one I made without double-sided cardstock. I used the "Mimi" Soar With It Collection from The Angel Company. I used a 1 3/4" circle punch for the flower petals and the sentiment is from the "Oh How" stamp set by TAC.

I have another one HERE on my other blog that has no stamping and does not use any TAC products. It was actually my first Dahlia card.

I really like making these though! Have a great weekend!

Udderly Fantastic Brayered Card

Here's another brayered card I made awhile back but hadn't posted yet. I made the background with a brayer and Cappuccino Delight Kaleidacolor ink pad. Then I used Palette Burnt Umber ink to stamp the cows from the "Kid Praises" stamp set by The Angel Company.

I will have a couple really fun projects to post after my Stamp Camp this weekend. (I want it to be a surprise for the ladies coming, just in case they happen to stop in here!)

Make it a great (and warm!) day. Tootles!

TAC Contest Entries

The Angel Company has a contest each month for it's angels (demonstrators). I have only entered three times since April 2005 when I became an angel and this month was one of them. There are SO many talented angels out there to compete with but it was fun to try anyway. I didn't win any of the categories but still wanted to show you what I entered.
The first category I'm showing you is "Card to Crop". This is where you use the same inspiration or layout for both a card and a scrapbook page. I've posted this card on here before but I sent it to TAC to go with the scrapbook page below.
I inked the edges of this page before sending it in, which made it look better. I'm now wishing I would have kept it for my daughter's scrapbook! LOL! The swirly is from the stamp set "Spring Dream" and the cardstock is from the "Mimi" collection.

The other category I entered was "Terrific Trio". The object is to make 3 different cards using 2 stamp sets.

For this first card, I cut the notch out using my Coluzzle cutting system. I also stamped on the Bazzill Bitty Blossom which is a nice effect that I enjoy doing.

Here is the second card. The stamp sets I used were "Hoppy Everything" and "Spring Dream".

And finally, the third card. I featured the "Hemingway" cardstock collection in this Terrific Trio. I really like this double-pocket card with the tags.

Here's another view of the double-pocket card.

All products and stamps are from The Angel Company of course. Thanks for stopping in and looking at my "losers"! LOL! Hope they inspire you in some way!

Have a great weekend, Tootles!

More Scor-pal fun!

Been having some more fun with my Scor-pal! These two cards would both be pretty plain and boring without all the embossed lines made with the Scor-pal. Both cards use the stamp set "Paisley Words" by The Angel Company and DCWV Matchmakers cardstock. Both images were colored with Tombow Markers.

This first one has a rectangle grid pattern embossed on the entire card front. And the pink scalloped layer was actually made from two partial Giga Scalloped Squares. You can see the line in the middle where they fit together, but I do not have the rectangle punch so sometimes ya just gotta make do, KWIM?

For the second card, I used the Scor-pal to make a diagonal grid pattern only on the bottom half of the card front.

Both cards have no embellishments for a reason. I wanted to show you how some simple scored lines can make a quick'n'easy card look FAB! With the Scor-pal, it only takes a few seconds to do - that's the beauty of it all.

Make it a great day!

Scor-pal fun!

I got a Scor-pal from The Angel Company! I used it today for the first time and once I got started, I couldn't stop! LOL! I saw this tutorial on making a "lattice" background and thought it was pretty cool. Here's a couple cards that I made using that technique:
I made this card for the current color challenge over on Stamp Shack. The challenge was to make a card using brown, peach, and pale blue. My blue looks more like lavender in this picture though. I used the new stamp set "Oh How" from TAC. I really like this set! The butterfly was stamped with Versamagic Aegean Blue ink and the sentiment with Palette Burnt Umber.

For this card, I used the new stamp set "More Elegant Sentiments". I think this set just screeeeams "Emboss Me!" LOL So that's just what I did - in gold! Only the word "Birthday" is from that set. "Happy" was from some other set. The brown stamped background is one of TAC's new Gift With Purchase stamps, and the green background cardstock is from K&Co.

That's all I have for now. Make it a good day!

Modern Grid Technique

I saw this technique on my friend Laura O'Shea's blog yesterday. HERE are her instructions for it and this is my first attempt:

I apologize for the poor quality in my photos lately. I try to take them in natural light beside a window but it's been so cloudy here that I just haven't been able to get good looking photos, even after editing!

All stamps are from The Angel Company and the black squares were colored with a watercolor pencil and Dove blender. They didn't turn out so well so I think I'll just have to make another one! LOL!

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Another brayered card

More fun with my brayer! First, I stamped the flowers ("Hoppy Everything" stamp set by TAC) with Versamark ink on glossy paper. Then I brayered over it with a Kaleidacolor Fresh Greens ink pad and stamped the sentiment ("Be Authentic" stamp set by TAC) with Palette Burnt Umber ink. The top and bottom images are from the "Spring Dreams" stamp set by TAC.

Short, sweet, and to the point! Tootles!

Brayered card

I dusted off my brayer and made some cards the other day. For this one, the first thing I did was stamp the first flower (from the TAC set "Spring Dream") with Versamark on my glossy paper. Then I used the Blue Breeze Kaleidacolor ink pad and brayered over it. Next, the black flowers were stamped with Palette Noir ink and also the sentiment (from "Little Inspirations" by TAC). It's quite a simple card, but you really don't need to do a whole lot when you brayer. It makes an impact by itself in my opinion.

I'll show you another one soon!

Pocket Card named

Ok, I think the "winning" name for the card/tutorial in my previous post is:

POCKALOPE!

It's a pocket card that looks like an envelope! (Not to be confused with the Criss-Cross card - this really is unique from that. If you make one, you'll see what I mean).

Thanks for all the suggestions both here and on Paper Wings!

My Pocket Card Tutorial

I designed this pocket card today and while I was making it I took pictures. I knew if it turned out nice, I would want to share it with you as soon as possible! I'm happy with the results and hope you like it too.

The first thing I want to mention is this - I feel like this card needs a name other than just "pocket card". Any suggestions? Leave me a comment here with a name and I'll choose one and let you all know what it is.

Wait no more, here's the tutorial:

MY POCKET CARD
by Vicki Hook

Supplies
All supplies can be purchased through The Angel Company unless otherwise noted.

7" x 7" square of DCWV Neutrals cardstock (item #V-73)
2 3/4" x 2 3/4" square of Hemingway cardstock, cut in half diagonally (item #V-836)
2 1/2" x 2 1/2" square of Hemingway cardstock, cut in half diagonally (item #V-836)
Scalloped circle: Hemingway, Giga Scalloped Circle Punch (item #D-701)
Regular circle: Hemingway, Coluzzle cutting knife (item #A-84012), Coluzzle cutting mat (item #A-84014), and Coluzzle Nested Circle template (item #A-84001)
Kid Praises stamp set (item #T-2686)
Gingerbread Versamagic ink (item #S-962)
Crop-a-Dile (item #K-100)
your choice of adhesive
your choice of brad or eyelet
pencil

Instructions

1. Score and fold the 7" square in half diagonally.
2. Fold the top layer back toward you so the point is even with the fold line at the bottom.

3. Turn it over. On the fold line, make a light pencil mark at 2 7/8" from each point/end. This should leave a section in the middle that is approximately 4 1/8" wide. (Doesn't have to be exact but just make sure the middle section is no wider than 4 1/4" if you want to put it in an A2 envelope.) Now turn your card back over and fold each side forward, using those pencil marks as guidelines of where to fold. The folded sections will overlap each other in front. This card is somewhat bulky so be sure to crease your folds really well.

4. The two triangles you have from cutting your 2 1/2" square in half diagonally will be adhered to the front overlapping triangle sections.
5. The two triangles from the 2 3/4" square will be adhered to the piece you folded down in step 1 and also at the upper point on the base of the card.
6. Using a Crop-a-Dile, punch a hole through ALL layers and fasten with a brad or eyelet to hold the card all together.

7. Punch a circle out of another piece of Hemingway cardstock with the Giga Scalloped Circle Punch. Ink the edge of it.
8. With the Coluzzle cutting system, cut a circle out of a light shaded piece of Hemingway cardstock. Use the "4th from center" cutting line on the Nested Circle template. This will create a circle that is about 2 3/8" in diameter. Ink the edge of it.
10. Stamp and color your image on the smaller circle. Then adhere them together to create an insert for your pocket.

I hope this inspires you in some way. If you choose to try this project, be sure to leave me a comment here with a link! I'd love to see what you came up with!

My Pocket Card

It has been about a month since I've done any stamping here at home. I made a few cards at our Croppers4Christ group at church, but that's it. Well, the kids went back to school today and I couldn't wait to get to my desk and create something! I tried a couple things that I had in mind but nothing was working. So... I designed something new! It actually kind of reminds me of some cards I made about a year ago. Here is one of those:

It is the same in that it's a pocket card and the sides criss-cross in the center. But I put my own spin on it for a brand new look. See it in the next picture.

The tutorial for my new card will be in my next post. For this example, I used the Mimi Soar With It Collection from The Angel Company and the two solid cardstocks are by Bazzill. The insert was made with the Giga Scalloped Circle punch and the Coluzzle cutting system and circle template. TAC also carries these two products!

Here's another view:

The finished card is about 4 1/8" wide and 5" tall at the point so it will fit in a traditional A2 sized envelope.

Now, I better get started on that tutorial! Stay tuned!

Cool Chicks

Well, this stamp set, Cool Chicks, by The Angel Company is retired, but of course any image could be used here. I had made this card for a recent sketch challenge at Stamp Shack.
I used the Soar With It Collection, Sands of Time, also from TAC and my Giga Scallop Circle Punch, which we now carry in the new TAC catalog!

Thanks for stopping by!
I hope you all have a GREAT 2008!
