Hidden Message Card Tutorial

This is one of the projects my TAC hostess club made last night. It was so much fun watching them all try to figure out how this card works! It's VERY easy, yet impressive. So I thought I would share my tutorial with you.

Hidden Message Card
by Vicki Hook

Supplies:
(1) piece cardstock, 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”
(2) pieces cardstock, 5 1/2” x 2 1/8”
pencil
ruler
stamps, ink, markers, ribbon, etc.

Directions:
1. We used the "Plastic Wrap Technique" to cover both sides of the 5 1/2” x 8 1/2” piece of cardstock.

2. Fold it in half to make a 5 1/2” x 4 1/4” card base.

3. Fold the front back toward you, lining the edge up with the center fold.

4. Turn it over and do the same way with the back, folding it in half with the edge lining up with the center fold. Your card should now look like an “M” (mountain fold, valley fold, mountain fold).

5. On the first and second folds, make a pencil mark at 1 3/4” from the top and bottom of the card.

6. Draw a line between the first and second folds, connecting the pencil marks.

7. This diagram shows the card folded in half with the fold lines in red and the pencil lines in blue. With the card folded in half, cut along the pencil lines.

8. Open the card back up. You should have two cut lines that run from the first fold across to the third fold.

9. Weave one piece of 5 1/2” x 2 1/8” cardstock through the cut sections sliding it over, under, over. Make sure it is all the way over to one side of the cut sections.

10. Weave the other piece of 5 1/2” x 2 1/8” cardstock through the cut sections, sliding it under, over, under.

11. When you present the card, it will be folded like an “M” and will be a tall rectangle when closed.

12. Open it up all the way to read the first "page".

13. Then bring the two mountain folds together at the back and place your thumb on the edge of the strip that is showing in the middle section.

14. Next, pull it open to find the “hidden message” on the inside.

15. Stamp and/or embellish as desired. You may or may not want to stamp or draw some kind of arrow on that middle section so they know to open it further for the rest of the message.

Here's another sample I made:

Hope this project inspires you!

As always, thanks for stopping in!

Tootles!

This is great tutorial :) Did you know there is another secret message in your card? You've got 2 hidden spaces :)

I just couldn't figure out how this worked until I went and made one myself - wow! Thanks so much for the tutorial!

I think Im going to try one double sized, using a full sheet of paper instead of a half.
